Finance
Finance in Stackap Business is a double-entry ledger that is posted from real bookings, payments and payouts, with reconciliation, statements and per-job profitability.
What it does
The ledger has a chart of accounts, journal entries and accounting periods. A database constraint rejects an unbalanced entry, so debits must equal credits before anything is saved. Closed periods can be reopened deliberately, and mistakes are corrected by posting a reversing entry, not by editing history. More than one business entity can be kept in separate books.
Revenue is posted where the money moves: from the card processor's webhook, from manually recorded payments, from payment emails that look like Venmo or Zelle notices, and when a booking is cancelled. Unmatched payments wait in a queue to be resolved. Receipts can be read with AI and suggested a category, and bank accounts can be linked and reconciled against the ledger.
Reports include balance sheet, profit and loss, trial balance, cash flow and accounts receivable aging. Job costing compares what a job earned with its labor and materials, which is the figure most service businesses never see per job. An accountant can be given time-limited access, and a natural-language question tool answers questions over the books.
How it works
Stackap Business is working software for running a service business, with its capabilities documented from the code. It is being brought onto the Stackap platform, so an outside agent can operate it with the same scoped tokens, approvals and API that Stackap Cloud uses. That work is in progress. The ledger and reports run inside the business software and have been used for real books. They are not yet available through the Stackap API.
Payouts to workers go out through Stripe Connect, with a prepare, claim and mark-paid sequence designed so a payout is not sent twice. Payroll runs can be created, approved and settled, and the results post to the same ledger.
Early-access scope
- No tax filing. Year-end reports and 1099-style exports are produced, but nothing is filed for you.
- No payroll tax withholding or filing. Payouts are contractor-style payments, and a payroll liabilities account exists in the chart.
- This is not certified accounting software. Have a qualified accountant review your books and your setup.
- Accounts payable is partial. Expenses and recurring expenses work; a full vendor-bill workflow is not built.
- Making journal entries immutable at the database level is a hardening item still open.
